Arlis J. Higley, 77
Died at Fremont Area Medical Center Sunday afternoon. She was born in Ida Grove, Iowa November 16, 1934 and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1952. She attended Buena Vista College at Storm Lake, Iowa and owned and operated a Title Insurance firm there for eight years. On August 5, 1956 Arlis Jessen married Val Whisler in Storm Lake. Arlis moved to Fremont in 1967 and went to work for Nebraska State Savings and Loan Association where she became Vice President of Marketing. In 1979 she became an Associate Broker with with Coldwell Banker Real Estate Company where she was top producer for 23 years. She has spent many happy years from 2002 until present with Don Peterson and Associates and still retained her real estate license.
Arlis married Robert Higley in Fremont August 22, 1980. He preceded her in death December 17, 1997.
She was Past President and served on local committees of the Fremont Board of Realtors and was Secretary of the Board and Scholarship Chairman of the Fremont Area Medical Center Foundation. She also served as Vice President of Administration of Greater Friends of Lied Center for Performing Arts in Lincoln. Arlis was a member of Chapter AJ of P.E.O., the Fremont Golf Club, and enjoyed Antique Rug Hooking, Marathon Bridge, the Omaha Symphony and International Travel. She loved to entertain with her family and friends and being around people from all ages, whether it was for pleasure or business. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by one son Brian Whisler (wife Sharon) of Fremont, a sister Marilyn Parker (husband Tom) of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, four stepsons; David Higley (wife Kathy) of Overland Park, Kansas; Tom Higley (wife Kathy) of Lincoln; Mick Higley (wife Carol) of Centennial, Colorado and Jim Higley of Wilmette, Illinois. She has fifteen grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Arlis was preceded by her husband, son Michael Whisler, and step son Kevin Higley.
A closed casket visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Dugan Funeral Chapel with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00. Private family services will be held.
