Unglenieks, Ausma "Ozzie" Valda, age 82, formerly of the Omaha - Council Bluffs area and Grand Rapids, MI, passed away August 29, 2016, at Premier Estates in Fremont, Nebraska.

Ausma was born on June 6, 1934, in Satini, Latvia near Saldus to Karlis and Alma (Pilegis) Andersons as the eldest of 4 children.During World War 2, her parents left Latvia in advance of the Soviet invasion with the family and were resettled into the displaced persons camp near Wurzach, Germany at the end of the war.As a refugee in West Germany, Ozzie completed her school studies.Her family immigrated to the United States in 1950 and was sponsored in McDonald, Ohio before moving to the Grand Rapids, MI area.On December 31, 1954 she married Helmuts and together had 2 children. The family moved to Iron Mountain, MI where Ozzie worked with children in the Head Start program before working at the Best Western Motel.After moving to the Omaha area, she worked at the New Tower Inn Best Western as a supervisor for the housekeeping staff.In retirement, she worked with "her" children as part of the daycare staff in Council Bluffs, IA. She loved to do crafts, work with children, and was at home in the outdoors.

She was preceded in death by her husband Helmuts "Sam" Unglenieks, brother Karlis "Charles" Andersons, father Karlis and mother Alma.

She is survived by her children Robert (MaryAnne) Unglenieks of Holland, MI and Sandra(Mark)Laughlin of Ames, NE, grandchildren Daniel Unglenieks and Ashley Laughlin, sister Alma Miller of Grand Rapids, MI and brother John Andersons of Oxford, MI and her dearest lifelong friend Misty Zelent of Grand Rapids, MI who kept her spirits up for the past 10 years with her constant words of encouragement.
