Carol L Denning's Obituary
Carol Denning, age 88, of Fremont, passed away January 27, 2017 at Dunklau Gardens after a stroke six years ago.
Carol was born to Floyd and Leota Cheney in Bennet, Neb. Feb. 13, 1928.
She was valedictorian of her Bennet High School class and after attending University of Nebraska-Lincoln for her teaching certificate, she taught in the same school she graduated from.
She married Verle Denning June 6, 1948 and lived near Lincoln and then Omaha until moving to Fremont in 1958. She spent her time raising three children, Randy, Kevin and Jill. Carol and Verle were married for 68 years.
In the late 1960s, she started Knit n' Stitch yarn shop downtown. She later sold it to Schweser's and managed the yarn and fabric department there.Some of her duties including going to New York City on buying trips.
A lifelong learner, she took classes in bookkeeping and computers. She left Schweser's and went to work at her husband's Ford tractor dealership and later Denning RV keeping the books for several years. She then worked at the Educational Services Unit for the Fremont School District for five years, while still keeping the books for the Denning's business.
The Dennings enjoyed camping, traveling, playing cards and spending their winters in an Apache Junction, Ariz. resort. While there she taught computer classes to other seniors.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church for 55+ years, where she was an elder and taught Sunday School.
Preceding her death were her parents, son Randy and sister Beverly.
Survivors include her husband, Verle of Fremont, son Kevin (Buffie) of Crestview, Fla. and Omaha, daughter Jill (Mike) Gackle of Garrison, N.D., five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, brothers Larry (sister-in-law Joan) of Carbondale, Colo., and brother Clement of Bennet, Neb.
Visitation will be February 1, 2017 from 4-8PM at Dugan Funeral Chapel. Family will be present from 6-8 p.m.
A private burial will be held at Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Dunklau Gardens, Fremont Presbyterian Church or American Cancer Society.
