Steyer, Dr. Caryl A. age 82, passed away April 4, 2007. He was born January 15, 1925 in Exeter, Nebraska. He graduated from Exeter High School in 1942, graduated from Doane College in 1949, and received his Masters Degree of Education from the University of Nebraska in 1959. He then received his Doctorate of Education from the University of Nebraska in 1968. Caryl was the Admissions Director at Doane College from 1949 to 1954. He was the first Chief Parole and Probation Officer for the State of Nebraska from 1955 to 1958. From 1958 to 1961 he set up the Juvenile Delinquency Program for Dodge County. From 1961 to 1987 he was Vice President for Student Services and Professor of Sociology at Midland Lutheran College. Caryl and Shirley were members of the Alumni Board of Doane College. He was presented with the Doane President's Award for Leadership in May 1999. Caryl was past president of the Fremont YMCA, involved with the American Field Service and was with the Outdoor Ministries Committee with the United Church of Christ. He was also very involved with the Red Cross of America. He was an active member of First Congregational Church and served as moderator twice. He was a Corporal in the United States Air Force from 1943 to 1946. He married Shirley Crinklaw August 4, 1946 in Wahoo, Nebraska. Shirley passed away February 2, 1994. Survived by; Daughter Karen (Don) Mundy of Fremont Son William Steyer and fianc Melanie Cavanaugh and sons Jarrid, Luke, and Drew of Fremont Son John (Terri) Steyer of Omaha, Nebraska Grandchildren; Nick Mundy, Jessica (Chad) Reade, Adam Steyer, Christopher Steyer, Dylan Steyer, Justin Steyer, and Elysia Steyer. Great-Granddaughter Emily Reade Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday April 7, at First Congregational Church. Reverend Terri Ackerman officiating. Visitation will be Friday 4-8 PM with family present from 6-8 at Lattin-Dugan Funeral Chapel, Fremont, NE.
