Dr. Catherine Ellen Peters, B.A.,M.A., PhD, 81 She was born April 22, 1926 to Hardeo Singh Peters and his wife Catherine Ellen Peters in Claira Swaine Hospital, Braeilly United Province, India. She departed this life September 12, 2007 in New York City, N.Y. Catherine attended Queen Victoria High School in Agra, UP, India in 1934, where she excelled as a student. She attended Isabella Thoburn College in Lucknow, India, were she received her B.A. Degree. She was a teacher in Lal-Bagh Girls High School in Lucknow. She was chosen to speak at the United Nations in New York on the subject, "Young Women of India". She got a scholarship to study in New York and earned a masters degree in Geography. Further study in Boston, Mass. gave her an Masters in Education. Catherine came to the United States to be a student at Boston University as a Crusade Scholar under the auspices of the Methodist Church. In 1979 she received a PH D degree from Columbia University in New York and was a teacher in the New York public schools until her retirement. After a time of failing health in June, July and August of 2007 and confinement in three institutions for medical care she peacefully departed this life after being administered last rites by the Canon of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. Survived by a sister, Mercy (husband Rishi) Kuba of Dallas, Texas. A sister, Dr. Emily Stephens and son, Tony of West Yorkshire, England, UK, and a sister, Sarojini B. Peters of Northholdt, Middlesex, England, UK, and her foster father, J. Graydon Wilson of Fremont, Nebraska. Also surviving are her nephew Tony's children, Moti and Emma, and their children, Daniel, Holly, Joses, Nicola, James, Matthew, and Rachael. Preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Peters of Truro, Cornwall, UK and her foster mother, Hortense P. Wilson of Fremont. Her father married again in 1942 to Dr. Ruth Nora Walters. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 19th at 2:30pm at Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Chapel. Rev. J. Graydon Wilson officiating.
