D. Verdell Stork, age 81, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln.
Verdell was born December 19, 1932, to Albert and Laura (Hilgenkamp) Stork on the family farm. He was baptized January 1, 1933 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington. He attended Brinkman School and then St. Paul's. Verdell was confirmed at St. Paul's in 1947. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1951 and farmed until 1953 when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on the USS Hornet and completed his duty after being honorably discharged in 1955. He served on reserve duty in the Navy until September 11, 1959. He was a member of the American Legion Post #71 for 60 years, a lifetime member of the VFW, and served as an honor guard member and a bugler.
Verdell Stork married Deloris Hilgenkamp at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on April 20, 1958.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and held various office positions within the church. Verdell was a DFA board member and was presented with the Farm Family Award in 1969 for the 100th anniversary of the family farm.
Verdell never officially retired from farming as it was one of his true passions. He also enjoyed bowling, softball, and coaching.
