Daniel David Thomas' Obituary
Daniel David Thomas, age 84, of Fremont, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 3, 2012, at his home after a 5-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Daniel was born August 10, 1928, to John and Mabel Fickle Thomas in Falls City, Nebraska. He attended school in Falls City. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at San Antonio, Texas, and Blackstone, Virginia.
Dan worked for Hinky Dinky Grocery Chain for 37½ years until that company closed. He then worked for four years for Food-4-Less until retirement.
Dan attended Fremont Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and worked with the Awanas program. He also worked with Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) with his wife Marylin, both at their church and at another MOPS organization as a volunteer, caring for two-year-olds except for the years they worked with handicapped little ones up through age six. Dan always was noted for his love of children and their love of him. He also enjoyed working with International Students Ministry at his church.
He married Marylin Zorn on January 15, 1955, in Falls City, Nebraska, and is survived by her and three daughters, Terese (Jim) Hill of Fremont, Diane Thomas of Laramie, Wyoming, and Elle (Blair) Birdsell of Lindstrom, Minnesota, and grandchildren David Hill, Sarah Hill (Chris) Caughorn, and Rachel Hill (Mike) Real, all of Fremont; and Danny, Kaleigh, and Colton Birdsell of Lindstrom, Minnesota. Great-grandchildren include Matthew Real and Selah Caughorn, both of Fremont.
He also is survived by brothers John and Jim of Falls City, Nebraska, Jerry of Lincoln, Nebraska, and sister Suzie of Independence, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Mabel, brothers Gale, Ernie, and Pat, and sisters Pearl, Sadie, and Maxine.
The family will be receiving friends at Dugan Funeral Chapel from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Sunday, October 7, 2012.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. at Fremont Christian and Missionary Alliance Church on October 8, 2012, with interment to follow at Ridge Cemetery. Pastor Tom Nevius will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the family and will be disbursed to several international missionary friends.
