David K. Drake, 83 of Fremont died Sunday at Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha. He was born July 8, 1922 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Floyd and Margarete Drake. He was raised there and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1940. Went to work for the Burroughs Corporation in 1941. In 1942 he enlisted in the Navy, and served as a hospital corpsman on the USS Relief. He was discharged on November 7, 1945 as a pharmacist mate, 1st class. He married Florence Irving, November 19, 1944 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She died October 16, 1995. He returned to work for Burroughs until his retirement in 1984, with a total of 42 years as a field engineer. He moved to Fremont in 1950. He was a member of Fremont Masonic Lodge #15, York Rite, Arbor Vitae Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Golden K Kiwanis, and American Legion Post #20. He was also a very active volunteer for the Dodge County Red Cross Chapter, serving as board member for many years. Past president of the Fremont JC's. Involved in Boy Scouts as a young man, receiving the Order of the Arrow award, and helping as an adult with many scout projects. Survived by: son, David B. (wife Jacqueline) Drake of Lincoln. 2 daughters: Marcia (husband Gerald) Allen of Omaha. Karen Schur of Lincoln. 2 sisters: Lois Vos of Dixon, Illinois and Caroline Welch of Houston, Texas. 8 grandchildren 4 great grandchildren Preceded in death by parents, wife Florence, and daughter Donna Crum. Services Wednesday 2pm at First Congregational Church. Visitation Tuesday 3pm to 8pm, with family present 6pm to 8pm. Memorials to First Congregational Church and Golden K Kiwanis Scholarship Fund.
