Donald D. Longacre, age 81, passed away November 7, 2010, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Don was born May 1, 1929, in Norfolk, Nebraska to Harlow and Elsie Longacre.He graduated from Humphrey High School in 1946.He moved to Omaha for Refrigeration Tech School and to court Lorraine Nissen whom he married May 7, 1950, in Humphrey, Nebraska.Don worked in Omaha for a short time in the refrigeration business and at Firestone Tire.

He opened Longacre's Texaco in Fremont, September 1, 1951 with his friend Merne Rohlfs.Don continued to work with family at the stations on Military and Main for over 59 years.The stations transitioned from Texaco, to Phillips 66, to Conoco.He built a family business based on honesty and integrity.Retirement was not an option for him and he served the public until the end.He loved to connect with the customers including handing out candy to the kids and treats to the dogs.

Don loved golfing, dancing, boating, spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He completed his last back flip at the Fremont Golf Club pool in 1994, at the age of 65.He enjoyed going to Nebraska Cornhusker football games and playing cards.He enjoyed math contests and challenged his children and grandchildren to be their best, although he always won.Don loved animals, particularly birds, wild and domestic.His two parrots, Paco and Herbie added enjoyment and purpose to his life after Lorraine, his lovely bride of 56 years, passed away in March 2006.Don was a good husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.He will be missed by many.

Daughter: Beverly (David) Saalfeld of North Bend, Nebraska

Sons: David (Jeannie) Longacre of Beijing, China; Rodney (Sherryl) Longacre and Gary (Mary) Longacre both of Fremont.

Grandchildren:Dr. Cj Jacobson, Shar Bennett, Wendy Curtis, Lt. Seth Saalfeld, Jason Saalfeld, Adam Saalfeld, Matthew Longacre, Nickelaus Larson, Ashley Larson, Tanya Longacre, Spencer Longacre, Evan Longacre, Morrow Longacre, Pierce Longacre.

Great Grandchildren: Alyssa, Tabitha, Dillon, Payton, Gabrielle, Alysha, Danielle, Colton, Lily, D.J., Kaden

Visitation:Wednesday, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. November 10, 2010, with family present from
6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Dugan Funeral Chapel.

Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont

Interment: Memorial Cemetery, Fremont, Nebraska

Memorials have been established to Trinity Lutheran Church.
