Donna L. O'Connor, age 93, passed away Monday, December 7, 2015 at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln.
Donna Lea (Marquardt) O'Connor was born January 11, 1922 in Madison, Nebraska to Chris E. and Julia (Gallagher) Marquardt.Donna attended public school in Madison, graduating with the class of 1939.She attended Midland College and graduated with a BS degree in education and taught in Beemer, Nebraska from 1942 to 1944, then began teaching in Fremont at East School where Bergan High School is now located.She taught first grade and kindergarten at East and kindergarten at Clarkson Elementary School and in 1967, she became an Elementary Art Specialist. Donna was the K-12 Art Department Chair at the time of her retirement in 1987 after 45 years of service.She served on the Fremont Area Medical Center Foundation and designed the first logo for the foundation as well.Donna also designed the Memorial Monument for Ridge Cemetery's Pauper's Field.In 1993, she composed the slogan and designed the cover pages for the fourteen sections of Madison's Q-125 history book.She spent her retirement years writing a family history, collecting one-twelfth scale miniatures and designing Christmas and all-occasion greeting cards.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Fremont Golf Club, May Museum, Joslyn Art Museum, Dodge County Historical Society and the Fremont Area Art Association.
Donna Marquardt married M. Charles O'Connor on December 27, 1966, in Omaha, Nebraska.He passed away January 7, 1983.
She is survived by:
Brother Charles J. Marquardt of Lincoln
Nephew Bernard (Yuan) Marquardt of Omaha
Niece Christine (Robert) McCollough of Lincoln
Several grand nieces and nephews.
