Edward "Ed" R. Vitek, age 71 of Fremont, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016, at Premier Estates.

Ed was born April 25, 1945, in West Point, Nebraska, to Adolph and Lydia (Parolek) Vitek.He grew up on a farm southwest of Scribner and graduated from North Bend High School in 1965.He served in the United States Army from June 9, 1966, until May 20, 1968.After he was discharged, Ed worked at Overland Products in Fremont from 1968-1976, and then Cargill Meat Solutions in Schuyler for 31 years from 1976-2007.He also helped Connie with servicing appliances at the Apt Store.

Ed married Barb Seversen on September 14, 1965, and they divorced in 1973.Edward married Connie (Eucker) Butterfield on October 5, 1991, in Fremont.

Ed was a member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, and the Elkhorn Valley Sams Camping Club.Ed enjoyed camping, gardening, music, fixing things, travel tours, and collecting model classic cars and John Deere tractors and coins.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Survived by his wife Connie; daughter Kimberley and husband Troy Deats of Omaha; stepdaughter Sheila and husband Terry Haas of Yankton, South Dakota; stepson Shad Butterfield of Norfolk; 8 Grandchildren; 1 Great-Granddaughter.

Memorials have been established to St. Timothy's Lutheran Church.

A Celebration of Ed's Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 17, 2016, at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church.Pastor Russell McDowell will be officiating.
