Esther M. Maynard (Pilger, Grell, Swirczek), 83, of Fremont died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
She was born December 30, 1927 in Mt. Ida, Kansas to William and Bessie Pilcher. She moved to Washington State for 2 years, and then moved to Millard where she attended school and later became a beautician. She married Earl G. Grell in November of 1946. Earl died in March of 1947.
She continued to reside and work in the area until January 30, 1949, when she married Edmund Swirczek. They lived on farms in several communities including Gretna, Papillion, Walbach and Springfield, before settling in Valley in 1965, at which time she began working as a lab technician at Schering-Plough. Ed died in September of 1972.
She married Delbert "Bob" Maynard in July of 1980. After retiring, they moved to Wahoo, and then Yutan and most recently settled in Fremont in 1998. She belonged to the Eagles Auxiliary of Wahoo. She loved listening and dancing to polka music, was an avid quilter and a wonderful housewife and mother.
She is survived by her husband Bob; two sons, Robert Grell of Fremont and Edmund J. Swirczek Jr. of Valley; daughters Mary (Jim) LaRocca of Fremont, Charlotte (Robert) Brauning of Prescott, AZ, Catherine (Michael) Harmon of Ashfork, AZ, Dorothy (David) Lowther of Fremont, Carol Swirczek of Austin, Tx; a stepson, Robert R. Maynard; stepdaughter, Roberta L. Lee; brother, William (and wife Elania) Pilcher ofHemet, CA, 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, three brothers and one grandson.
A visitation gathering will be held at Dugan Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, January 3rd from 6-8pm. A memorial service will be held at 10am Wednesday,January 4th at Dugan Funeral Chapel in Fremont. Committal of remains will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and Odyssey Hospice.
