Evelyn Geneva Layne, age 87, of Fremont, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Fremont Health.
Geneva was born October 8, 1927 in Rockwood, Tennessee to Andrew and Gladys (Soard) Easter. She was united in marriage to Edward E. Layne on December 28, 1943. The union was blessed with two daughters, Rosemary and Martha.
Geneva was a stay-at-home mother while her daughters were young, and in 1964 she began a 20 year career as a receptionist and book keeper at a beauty salon in Dallas, Texas. She loved to cook, and her family was always aware of her "sweet tooth." She was a faithful Christian and a 46-year member of her church in Dallas, where she enjoyed being a part of the church choir. She enjoyed traveling, especially road trips, and most summers they would travel to South Padre Island and Tennessee for family reunions. In Edward and Geneva's nearly 70 years of marriage, they lived in Oak Ridge, TN, Washington, D.C., and Dallas, Texas, where Edward worked with government projects. In 2002, they moved to Fremont to be close to their daughters and grandchildren. Edward passed away in September of 2013 in Fremont.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Rosemary (Dan) Martin of Elkhorn and Marty (Winfield) Weber of Fremont; six grandchildren, Eva (Curtis) Wilson of Austin, Texas, Susan Martin of San Francisco, CA, Saundra Mohnsen of Omaha, Dr. Wendy Weber of Bethesda, MD, Mandy (Seth) Hengelfelt of Stromsburg, NE, Dr. Mitch (Nicole) Weber of Sioux Falls, SD; six great-grandchildren; Carley, Emily and Lexie Wilson, Maddisen Mohnsen, Wyatt and Sydney Hengelfelt. Geneva is also survived by her sisters Faye Cooley, Wanda Bullard and Shirley Thomas; sister-in-laws Teresa McCluen, Jo Kirkland, Joyce Kirkland and Margaret Easter; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, parents, a brother Kenneth Easter and grandson Jamie Martin.
