Gerald R. McDowell, age 80, of Fremont passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Gerald was born August 9, 1933, to Harold and Florence (Jensen) McDowell in Valley, Nebraska. He attended Fremont Senior High School and graduated in 1952. After graduating he worked primarily as a welder for Nebraska Natural Gas Company for 16 years. He then went into trucking as an owner/operator and after many years he also began hauling sand and gravel until the early 1980's. Gerald then became a full time mechanic and welder for Platte Valley Truck Repair and Schultz Transportation. He never fully retired and continued to weld and work as a mechanic until his death.

Gerald married Sharon Krueger September 22, 1979 at their residence in Fremont.

In his younger years Gerald raced stock cars and enjoyed singing and playing guitar in a band. He also liked hunting, camping, and recently enjoyed spending his time reading. Gerald was also a member of the NRA. Gerald loved to ride his motorcycle. He and Sharon would take many trips to Arizona, California, Texas, and Colorado both hauling and riding their motorcycle.
