Harold E Hessman's Obituary
Harold E. Hessman, age 87, of Fremont passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Fremont Health.
Harold was born November 1, 1927 to Paul and Fern Hessman in Dodge City, Kansas. He attended and graduated from Dodge City High School. After high school he went into the work force as a lineman. He met the love of his life Zola McVey and married on February 13, 1947. He served 35 years with OPPD as a linemen, then a supervisor until his retirement. After retirement he and Zola moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas where they had vacationed every year. Harold volunteered as a golf course ranger there. Both Harold and Zola enjoyed vacationing in Branson, Missouri.After 23 years in Arkansas, they moved back to Fremont in October 2013.
Harold enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and found himself loving anything his grandchildren were involved in. He loved coaching baseball and was the coach for the midget baseball team for many years in Carter Lake, Iowa.With his passion for baseball he and a few friends built the baseball field known as HamiltonField in Carter Lake. Because of his contributions to the community, the street leading into the ball park is named in his honor 'Hessman Drive'. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and was known for his poker parties with his golfing buddies.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Eileen Starks, brother Richard Hessman and sister Irene Rogers.
He is survived by his wife Zola, son Robert Hessman of Omaha, daughters Patricia Popken of Arizona, Edie and husband Mike Ronhovde of Fremont, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, friends and family.
