Herbert Douglas "Doug" Ellis, 68, of Omaha, died Friday, December 18, at his home.
Doug was born April 21, 1947 in Omaha, NE.His parents were William (Herb) and Gladys Ellis.
He was raised in Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School in 1965.After high school he worked for the Northern Natural Gas Company before being drafted into the Army in 1966.Doug served in the Vietnam War, and was stationed in Korea.He married Nancy Lingle in Fremont in 1967.After his discharge in 1968, he worked for a short time at the family business, Ellis Brothers Gas Station, on South Broad Street.He then began a long and successful career in sales, which took him from Fremont to Lawrence, Kansas, and eventually to Omaha, where he retired in 2009.
Doug was active in fast pitch softball in the Fremont area and Omaha, playing for many teams as an ace on the pitcher's mound.He enjoyed golf, all things baseball, karaoke, and finding new restaurants. During his adult life, the Lingle and Smith families were very important to Doug.His gregarious nature made him a valued member of the Big O Optimist Club and Metro Area Youth Foundation.Doug especially enjoyed mentoring underprivileged children.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Brett and his wife Leeanna Ellis of Omaha.
Visitation will be held at Braman Mortuary, 1702 N. 72nd Street, Omaha, NE, on Monday, December 21, 2015, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.The family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00.Services will be Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at Dugan Funeral Chapel, 751 N. Lincoln Avenue, Fremont, NE at 10:30am.Pastor Scott Millard officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be held at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
Memorials are suggested to the Metro Area Youth Foundation.
