Howard Martin Fischer, 84, of Fremont was called to eternal rest, on March 5th, 2007 at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont. Howard was born on August 11, 1922, on the family homestead north of Arlington, NE. to parents Ernest F. and Anne (Scholl) Fischer. He is the second to the youngest of six children. He was baptized on June 4th, 1924 and confirmed on March 21st, 1937 at St. John's Church, Vacoma, NE. He attended Hooper schools and volunteered to the U.S. Army Air Forces on October 29, 1942. He served on Guam during World War II for the Ammo Section of 575th Air Material Squadron of the 69th Air Service Group. After the war he returned to the family farm and married Leona Delores Stubbs on June 17th, 1955 in Grand Island, NE. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Hooper, NE. He was a long time farmer on the family farm and moved to West Point, NE in 1972. In 1978, he semi-retired and worked at IBP in West Point until retiring and moving to the Lone Star Corral RV Park in Hondo, TX in 1985. He and Leona loved to travel in their RV to visit family and friends. They lived their retirement dreams; fishing, camping, playing pool, and sight seeing, and most importantly being together. They traveled to all of the lower United States, Alaska, Canada and Mexico. They were members of the Escapees RV Club. They moved to Fremont, NE in 2005. He is survived by his wife Leona, two sons, Edward of Austin, TX and Mike of Fremont; three grand daughters, Michaela (fianc Jeremy), Jessica and Lauren all of Fremont; four brothers, Robert of Fremont, Donald (and wife Yash) of Las Vegas, NV, Benjamin (and wife Ester) of Creighton, NE and Louis of Blair, NE.; also by many nieces and nephews. Howard will be reunited with his parents, brother Eugene, aunts, uncles, and two nephews and many friends. Funeral services will be at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont on Saturday, March 10th at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Timothy Gierke will officiate. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, March 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Lattin-Dugan-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Fremont. A Private inurnment will be held at a future date.A memorial has been established to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
