Ilga Dambro, age 70, of Omaha, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at her residence of natural causes.

Ilga was born December 9, 1945.

Ilga was proud of her Latvian heritage and was born at the end of World War II in a displaced person's camp in Oldenburg, Germany. Her mother along with her two brothers arrived in the United States in 1952. The family settled in Fremont within a few years. Ilga became a naturalized citizen in 1960 and was adopted that same year.

Ilga graduated from Fremont High School in 1963 and attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont majoring in journalism. She then moved to Omaha where she worked many years for a major law firm in Omaha.She also was a full-time assistant administrator at United Catholic Social Services and state coordinator for Common Cause.

She enjoyed sewing, keeping plants and writing poetry.

Ilga loved to attend The College World Series for many years and she was an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers football fan.

She is preceded in death by her mother Aina Dambro and stepfather Adolfs Dambro.

She is survived by her brothers Indy (Jo Ellen) Dambro of Emporia, Kansas, Guntars (Connie) Dambro of Cheyenne, Wyoming, sister Sylvia (Mitch) Kimbell-Schmitz of Fremont, nephews Ryan Dambro, Zac (Anna) Dambro, Matt Schmitz, nieces Megan (Josh Rosebaugh) Dambro, Amy (Michael Faulkner) Dambro, Erin (Jared) Glassier, Ally ( Joe) Liss, Lexi (Jeff) Sindelar, Kari Schmitz, great-nieces Sydnee, Shelby, great-nephews Levi, Ethan, Dillon, Nixon and Brek as well as many other family and friends.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
