Irene Anna Stienike, 98 of Fremont, NE, formerly of Grand Island area, died Thursday, Oct 13, 2016 at Nye Pointe Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 6, 1918, on the family farm west of Wood River, NE, Hall County to John and Emma (Hargens) Schwartz.On September 17, 1939, she married Alex Stienike at her family home.She was baptized and attended church and school in the Cameron Township area.Alex and Irene spent most of their married life on the family farm near Dannebrog, NE.They raised their family there and attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church.Later they retired in Grand Island, NE.Many dances at the Platte Deutsche, camping trips, fishing outings, and card games were enjoyed in their lives. They enjoyed family get togethers as well.After Alex died, Irene enjoyed GI Primrose living and later senior living in Fremont.Her greatest trait was remembering everyone she met and always speaking to them.
Survivors include son, Don Stienike (Pat) and daughter, Betty Faux, all of Fremont, son, Gary Stienike (Bobbi) of Loveland, CO, daughter, Emily Eutsler (Steve Hunsberger) of Kearney, Grandchildren, Doran Stienike (Kristie), Steve Stienike (Lindsay), Wanda Stumpff (Craig), all of Omaha, Tim Stienike (Stacey), Trista Rice, Tyler Stienike (Jenni), all of Loveland Co.Melissa Tresch (Rick) of Hamilton, NJ, Dustin Eutsler (Michelle) of Gibbon, Brad Hatt (Melanie), of Scottsdale, AZ, Pamala Webster of Millard, NE, and 23 Great Grandchildren.Also, sister-in-law, Irene Sorensen of Texas and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, Stephen John Stienike, Brother & Sister-in-Law August & Faye Schwartz, Sons in law, Douglas Eutsler and Willis Faux, many brother and sister-in-laws and relatives.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday October 18th at Livingston Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island, Pastor Bob Carlson officiating.Burial will be at Grand Island City Cemetary.
Visitation will be at 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home on Tuesday.Lunch will be provided.
A special thank you to all the caring staff and individuals at Nye Pointe Nursing Home in Fremont, NE including "Lucy" the dog, for all their time and caring moments for Irene.Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Humane Society.
