Jack A Schirmer's Obituary
Jack A. Schirmer, age 91, of Fremont, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Nye Legacy.
Jack was born in Scribner, NE on February 29, 1924.He was a Leap Year baby and he delighted in this his entire life. He died just 8 days shy of his "23rd" birthday.He was 91.
When Jack was a young boy his family moved to Hartington, NE.He graduated High School and soon afterward he joined the Army and was shipped out to the South Pacific.After his service he returned to the University of Nebraska where he graduated with a degree in Education.It was there that he metthe love of his life, Marilyn Diestel.
They were married shortly after graduation .Soon they embarked on the adventure of a lifetime, a move to the West Coast. California here we come!They settled in Southern California and started a family while Jack earned his Masters Degree in Education at UCLA.They later moved the family to Balboa where they quickly became a part of the Beach Lifestyle.
After Jack retired from his career in education, he and Marilyn returned to the Heartland, their roots.Jack's passion for painting returned in full force and he became quite prolific.After Marilyn died in 1996 he opened the first of two galleries in Fremont on D St, and later Jack's Downtown Gallery on Main Street.About that time he met and married Millie Neff.
Jack was very social and was often the life of the party. He loved being the center of attention. He liked to travel, play bridge, go to the theater and spend time with family and friends.He was very active in the Fremont Art Association.
He lived out his last years at Nye Legacy under the loving care of Kristin Harris and her very dedicated staff.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Anita Schirmer, his siblings Charles and Phyllis, his wife Marilyn in 1996 and wife Millie in 2006.
He is survived by his son John (wife Dawn), and daughter Anne Schirmer Gordon (husband Steve).Grandchildren: Shelby Schirmer Wagner (husband Chris), Doug Schirmer, Randy Gordon (wife Morgana), and Eric Gordon.
Great grandchildren: Jack, Dean, and Zoey Wagner, and Oliver Gordon.
