James "Jim" S. Mitchel, age 89, of Fremont, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Dunklau Gardens.

Jim was born November 13, 1928 to Allen and Selma (Harding) Mitchel in rural Saunders County. Jim enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1946, and was honorable discharged 2 days before his 19th birthday in 1947 as a Radar Operator. He married Bernice Snyder on April 16, 1950 in Fremont, where he lived for the rest of his life. However, he always had deep roots from living on the farm. Jim was a handyman, always looking to alter or fix anything he could get his hands on. He was a loyal employee to Hormel for 28 years.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC in Fremont. Jim loved his family and the time spent with them, he also had a soft spot for his 'grand-pugs'.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Douglas, sister Jackie and granddaughter Katie Diers.

He is survived by his wife Bernice of 67years, son Keith (Nicole) Mitchel of Victoria, Texas, daughter Sheryl Diers of Fremont, brother Leroy "Shorty" Mitchel of Tecumsuh, Nebraska, grandchildren Lainey Marilyn Diers, Beau (Lela) Diers of Italy, Brandon (Erin) Diers of San Diego, California, Ashley Mitchel of Arizona, Kyle Mitchel of Colorado, great grandchildren Kingston, Aria and Kaia.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 8, 2018 from 5-7PM at Dugan Funeral Chapel.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 1:30PM at Dugan Funeral Chapel.

Private burial will be held at Memorial Cemetery.
