Joseph J. Kros, 77, of Fremont, passed away Friday at Arbor Manor.
Joe was born in Omaha on November 28, 1933 to Joseph Sr. and Dina Kros. After high school, he joined the Marines and served during the Korean War from 1952 to 1955. After military service, he drove a cattle truck for a short time before tending bar in Elkhorn. In the early 1970's, he opened the Sportsman's Bar, home of "Joe's World Famous Cheeseburgers," in downtown Fremont. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed fishing at his home in Woodcliff and vacationing in Canada and loved to cook. Joe was an "All Around Good Guy."
He is survived by his step-daughter, Susan Bittner of Fremont; sisters, Shirley (Allen) Andersen of Omaha and Elizabeth Flynn of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren, Dillon "Spud" Bittner and Maddison "Gabby" Bittner of Fremont; and three nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service with military honors will be Tuesday, 11:00 at Dugan Funeral Chapel. There will be no visitation. Memorials have been established to the Disabled American Veterans and the Cedar Bluffs Fire and Rescue. Dugan Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
