Joseph M. Pelikan, 78
Omaha
Died at Methodist Hospital in Omaha Tuesday night.
He was born June 25, 1931 in Wellston, St. Louis County, Missouri and was raised there attending McBride High School in St. Louis before joining the U.S. Army in 1948. Joe moved to Fremont in 1949 and married Zora Mae Weihe in Schulyer May 17, 1949. She died in April of 2003. Joe worked for 23 years for George A. Hormel Co., 14 years for Farmland Industries, and then for Hinky Dinky and Hy Vee Grocery Stores after his retirement. He married Ann Lynch in Valley May 23, 2007.
Joe recieved his High School Diploma in 2001 after being out of school for over 53 years. He was active in the Fremont Pathfinders Visually Impaired Peer Support Group and the Men's Bible Study Group at United Faith Community Church in Valley. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and sold produce at the farmers market in Fremont for years.
He is survived by his wife, Ann, three daughters; Patrice Humbert and Jody Sanders (husband Randy) both of Fremont and Penny Dehner (husband Bob) of Chillocothe, Ohio. Two sons Michael Pelikan of Omaha and Jim Pelikan (wife Jeanne) of Fremont.
Two step-daughters; Tina Lowder (husband Jeff) of West College Corner, Indiana, Shannon Mendez (husband Mike) of Millard, Nebraska, Three sons; James Lynch (wife Tara) of Oxford, Ohio, John Lynch (wife Dana) of Glenwood, Iowa, Jeff Lynch (wife Tracey) of Papillion, Nebraska.
Three Sisters; Catherine Molini of Cattawissa, Missouri, Sister Mary Lalamont Pelikan of Lubbock, Texas, and Nancy Hennenhoefer of Florissant, Missouri.
Seven Grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 8 step grandchildren.
Services will be Monday November 1, at 10:00 A.M. at the Christian Church of Waterloo. Rev. Charles Kent officiating. Visitation will be at Dugan Funeral Chapel Friday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 and at the Church Sunday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A memorial has been established to the Christian Church of Waterloo. Condolences may be left at www.duganchapel.com.
Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Fremont.
