Julie Kai (Fillman) Dillon, age 50, of Fremont, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2015, after a valiant fight with brain cancer.


Julie was born to Jim and Joyce (Holford) Fillman on April 27, 1965, in Davenport, Iowa.She grew up in Ankeny, Iowa, and graduated from Ankeny High School in 1983.She attended college at the University of Northern Iowa.She developed many life-long friendships at the University of Northern Iowa, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Phi sorority and also met her husband Scott.Scott Dillon and Julie Fillman were married June 25, 1988 in Des Moines, Iowa.Julie began her professional career as an educator in 1988.She went on to earn two masters degrees; one in counseling from UNO and the other in school administration from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska.Julie began teaching in the Fremont School District when she and Scott moved to Nebraska in 1996.In 2001 Julie became an elementary counselor for the Fremont School District.She touched many lives over the years through her gentle guidance and nurturing ways.One of those ways was through her involvement with the Girl Scouts of America.Julie was a Girl Scout beginning in kindergarten through high school.During this time she was the recipient of the Gold Award as well as becoming a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts.Shortly after moving to Nebraska she started her own troop which she led for 14 years.Her efforts were recognized when 5 of her Girl Scouts earned their Gold Awards and became lifetime members themselves.Julie loved life with all her heart and she loved helping people.Julie was a strong and kind-hearted family woman loved by all she encountered.


Julie had strong faith and loved her church family, living on the lake, her dogs, being crafty and spending time with family, especially during family game nights.


As a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, niece and friend, Julie will be missed by so many who were blessed to have her in their lives.


She is survived by her loving husband, Scott; her children, Marissa (Nick) Smock of Dallas, Alyssa and Michael; her brother, Barry Fillman; and her sister, Amy (Jeremy) Packer of Phoenix.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Joyce and her step-father, Joe Alcorn.
