Keith Leon Jurgens, 66
Passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born November 24, 1943 in Fremont, Nebraska to Herbert and Gertrude (Hasch) Jurgens. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. Keith attended school in Saunders County and graduated from Fremont High School in 1961. He attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont. He also served in the Army Reserves in Fremont.
He married Joyce Ann Jones at First Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1968. They moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in 1970, where he owned a retail shoe business. In 1977 they moved to Glenwood Springs, Colorado where they owned the Shoe Corral until 1987. Keith worked in real estate until retiring in 2009. He enjoyed managing and maintaining his rental properties and his farm in Saunders County, Nebraska. Keith especially enjoyed the beauty of nature and spending time with his friends hunting and fishing in the Colorado mountains. He also enjoyed vacationing in Mexico with his family.
Survivors include his wife Joyce, a daughter Karri (husband Selden) Richardson of Richmond, Virginia; a son Chris Jurgens of Glenwood Springs; sister Jean Widman of Golden, Colorado; sister Janice Rothrock of Arcata, California; and granddaughter Lelia Richardson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont, Nebraska, Rev. Michael Thomas officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. A memorial has been established to Calvin Crest Camp Conference Center & Retreat Center, 2870 County Road 13, Fremont. Calvin Crest Camp is the former Jurgens farm where Keith grew up, and it held a special place in his heart. Donations may also be made to Valley View Cancer Center Campaign, P.O.
