Lavon A. Gaskin, 84
Lavon was born May 20, 1928 in Mississippi where he was raised and joined the United States Air Force in 1947. He served for 23 years, retiring as a Chief Master Sargent. He moved to Fremont with his family in 1967 where he owned a gas station in Arlington and worked in the auto parts industry prior to attending Midwest Theological Seminary in Kansas City. Lavon served as pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Fremont. He also worked as a guard at Hormel until two years ago.
Lavon married Barbara G. Baker in Laurel, Mississippi July 4, 1949.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, two daughters Deborah K. Miller (husband Tom) of Omaha and Pamela J. Stout (husband John) of Fremont; three sons Kenneth L. Gaskin (wife Barbara A.) of Fremont, John Gaskin (wife Rhonda) of Lawrence, Kansas, and Timothy P. Gaskin of Fremont. Also a brother Bill Gaskin of Olive Branch, Mississippi, 16 grandchildren and 7 grand grandchildren. He was preceded by one son Robert Daniel in 1975, three sisters, two brothers and his parents.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 12 at 10:00 A.M. at Dugan Funeral Chapel. Rev. Scott Jensen officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00. A memorial has been established. Condolences may be left at www.duganchapel.com.
