Leon J. Brokenicky passed away at home early Saturday morning after lengthy illness (April 1, 2017).

Leon was born Aug. 8, 1939, to Lumir (Lou) and Alvilda (Billy) Brokenicky in Omaha. He attended school in Fremont and graduated in 1957. He joined the Army Reserve and served for nine years. When Marie went back to school in 1995, Leon went through all the photography classes at Metro Community College.

Leon married Marjorie Stewart on Aug. 18 1958. They had one child, Shari.

Leon married Patricia Marie Casselman on Sept. 11, 1971, in Fremont. Their marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity on Aug. 18, 1972. Leon and Marie met at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Omaha where they and Keith Rasmussen were taking lessons. Leon and Marie have been married for 46 years. They had four children.

Leon served over 56 years in church service, first at the First Baptist Church and then at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Service included youth basketball coach, Boy Scout leader positions (all three sons are Eagle Scouts), youth leadership, clerk, Counselor in Bishopric, Bishop and several other positions.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, parents and his only brother, Robert Brokenicky.

Survivors include: wife, Marie Brokenicky; children, Shari Brokenicky, Grand Junction, Colo., Alan and Rachel Brokenicky, Broken Arrow, Okla., Eric and Brenda Brokenicky, Fremont, Pamela and James Sheets, Firth, and Daniel and Heidi Brokenicky, Waverly; and grandchildren, Kristen, Rebekah, Emily, Jonah, Alissa, Christopher, Samuel, Kaitlin, Tyson, Alexander and Joslyn.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, April 15, at 4 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The address is 1160 Garden City Road. The parking lot is just off Luther Road behind the church.
