Leona Delores Fischer, 76
Fremont
Leona was called to eternal rest on May 27, 2013 at Shalimar Gardens. She was born on September 18, 1936 in Grand River, Iowa to Arthur Gerald and Cora (Bryant) Stubbs as one of twelve children. Leona Stubbs married Howard Martin Fischer June 17, 1955 in Grand Island, Nebraska. She and Howard made their living farming and were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Hooper. They moved to West Point in 1972 and then after retirement they moved to the Lone Star Corral RV Park in Hondo, Texas in 1985. In 2005 they moved to Fremont. They were married for 51 years before Howard's death in 2007.
Leona and Howard loved to travel in their RV to visit family and friends. They lived their retirement dreams: fishing, camping, playing pool, sight seeing and most importantly being together. They traveled to all of the lower United States, Alaska, Canada and Mexico. They were members of the Escapees RV Club and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two sons, Edward of Austin, Texas and Mike (fiancee Diane Hoschiet) of Fremont; three granddaughters, Michaela (Jeremy) Leffler and great grandsons Spencer and Marcus, Jessica (Eric) Sorensen and Lauren Fischer all of Fremont; brothers Bill (Doris) Stubbs of Belen, NM, Terry (Sherry) Stubbs of Grimes, IA, Merlyn (Sheri) Stubbs of Cold Springs, TX and sisters Barb Owen and Verda Foland of Indianola, IA, Mary (Dick) Beeman of Osceola, IA and Kathy Adams of Rio Rancho, NM.
Leona will be reunited with Howard, her parents, brothers Gerald Jr., Darel, Don and sister Helen.
Memorial services will be Friday, May 31 at 11:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Rev. Timothy Gierke officiating. People may greet the family at Dugan Funeral Chapel Thursday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. There has been a memorial established to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
