Leona I. Heldt's Obituary
Leona I. Heldt, age 51, of Fremont, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 at Nye Legacy.
Leona was born November 2, 1965 to Cecil and Betty White in Chicago, IL. She then moved to Mason City, Iowa where she was raised until she was 13, when she lost her parents. She then moved to Nebraska with her sister Karla and husband Darrell Estell to Offut Air Force Base. They then moved to Ramstein, Germany where she graduated from Ramstein High School in 1984. She met Jeffrey Heldt and they were married September 1986 in Ramstein Village, Germany. They then moved to Montgomery, Alabama where they resided for 6 years, before returning to Nebraska in 1992.
Leona worked for Fremont Medical Center in the Radiology Department as the receptionist/transcriptionist. She then worked for several radiologists as the billing coordinator, as well as Pathfinder Support Services as a book keeper.
Leona was very involved in the Fremont community where she wore several 'hats'. She was one of the founders of the Fremont Summer Lunch Program, committee member of the Fremont Hope Center for Kids as well as one of the pillars to bringing the Fremont Area Compassionate Friends Group together. In 2012, Leona was awarded the United Way Volunteer of the year award, for her involvement in the Summer Lunch Program.
Leona loved spending time with her family and friends, as well as scrap booking and stamping. She enjoyed volunteering and helping in the community where ever she was needed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Nathaniel, brother Clyde White and brother-in-law Darrell Estell.
She is survived by her husband Jeff, children Delilah Heldt of Omaha, Jonathan Heldt of Fremont, siblings Karla (Matthew) Bailey of Omaha, Robert (Lori) White of Bellevue, Wally White of New York, Andy Estell of Omaha, Brandy (Pat) Smart of Cedar Creek, NE, as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Memorial may be directed to the Fremont Area Compassionate Friends or American Diabetes Association.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May, 4, 2017 from 6-8PM at Dugan Funeral Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 5, 2017 at 10:00AM at the Presbyterian Church.
Burial will take place at Ridge Cemetery.
