Letha Anne Hilgenkamp, age 87, of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center, in Scribner.

Letha was born May 6, 1922, in Cortland, Nebraska, to Elmer and Anne (DeVries) Balderson. She graduated from Cortland High School in 1940. After graduating high school, she attended Peru State College where she earned a Teacher's Certificate. It was during this time she was married to Robert M. Barber for 14 years. She taught in the rural school system for four (4) years, taught three (3) years at Hooper, and six (6) years in Fremont. Letha married Vernon Hilgenkamp on July 31, 1965 and they joined their families to live in Scribner from 1965 to 2001 when she and Vernon moved to Fremont.

Letha was a May Museum Volunteer, an active member of First Congregational-UCC in Fremont and Scribner, and loved traveling with Vernon. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, playing with grandchildren and great-grandchildren and growing cotton.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, May 3, 2010, at the First Congregational Church-UCC in Fremont. Pastor Terri Akkerman will be officiating.
