Lou Feuerstein, 83
Loean "Lou" Feuerstein of Fremont passed away peacefully on January 1, 2014 at her home. Lou was born April 7, 1930 in Snyder, Neb., to Martha and Lawrence Kroenke. She attended St. Peter's Lutheran Grade School, Snyder High School and the Nebraska College of Business. On Nov. 23, 1949, she married Darwin E. Wegner, with whom she founded Mid Land Vet, Inc., a veterinary supply business. Darwin died from injuries in a car accident in January 1968. Lou owned Spence Shop, a women's specialty store, from 1969 until 1972. She married Edwin W. "Dutch" Feuerstein on March 5, 1971 in Fremont.
An avid golfer and active in golf admistration, Lou was the first woman to serve on the Fremont Golf Club board of directors, both as secretary and golf chair. She served as Vice President, President and Executive Secretary of the Nebraska Women's Golf Association (a total of nine years), and was President of the Fremont Ladies Golf Association, the Omaha Womens Interclub, and the Joslyn Guild of Fremont. She was a member of the USGA Women's Affairs Committee for six years. She served on the Board of the Nebraska Golf Hall of Fame as well as the Golf Awards Committee for many years, and received the Hall of Fame's Herbert H. Davis Memorial Award. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband Dutch, two sons Steven Wegner (wife Terri), James Wegner (wife Margie); step children Sarah Wurtz (husband Gary) of Valley, Fred Feuerstein of Omaha, Chris Roper (husband John) of Seattle, Washington, and Sue Olson (husband Bob) of Lafayette, Colorado; one sister Ardine Merwald (husband Bernie) of Omaha. She was preceded by her parents and one sister. She was an important part of her families lives, was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
