Mary E. Burmester, age 97, of Solder, IA, formerly of Fremont, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017.

Mary was born January 16, 1920, to Robert and Hettie Bell, in Fremont.Mary worked as a secretary at Hammond-Stephens, Robbins and Yost attorneys, as well as Abbott, Dunlap and Abbott attorney's. She worked with Nebraska Ordinance Plant during WWII and Fremont High School. She worked many years with H&R Block during tax season.

Mary married Lambert C. Burmester in 1952 and lived in Fremont for all but seven years of her life. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where she was active in the Prayer Circle and Churchwomen. She was also a member of Prairie Piece Makers Needlework Guild and Basket Cases small quilting group. Mary served as president of First Lutheran Churchwomen, Altar Guild, Lydia Circle, Prairie Piece Makers and The Fremont Community Concert Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lambert in 2013, parents, brothers Harold and Robert and sister Freida.

She is survived by her son Greg (Donna) Burmester, daughter Beth (Kevin) Hanrahan, niece Judy (Carl) Giessel, grandchildren Kenneth (Skylar) Hanrahan, Karen (Zach) Freeman, Brandy Bentley, great-grandchildren Sammy, Aaliyah, Mariah, as well as many other family and friends.

Memorials may be directed to Nebraska Children's Home Society or Peace Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 8, 2017, from 4-8PM with family present from 6-8PM at Dugan Funeral Chapel.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 10:30AM at Dugan Funeral Chapel.

Burial will take place at Ridge Cemetery.
