Phyllis Whalley, age 92, of Fremont, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Dunklau Gardens.
Phyllis was born on May 17, 1922 in Geneva, Nebraska to Lee and Hazel Thompson. She spent most of her childhood there, moving to Fremont during her high school years. She graduated with the class of 1941 and went to the University of Nebraska for one semester. She worked as a telephone operator in Fremont until she married Donald Whalley on September 15, 1946. She spent most of her time as a homemaker while her children were young. After her children grew up, she began working for Dr. Larry Gausman and Dr. Thomas Waring as a medical receptionist.
Phyllis enjoyed her bridge club, playing golf, spending time with her grandchildren and friends. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fremont, P.E.O, and Eastern Star. Phyllis loved the beauty of the outdoors.
She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Whalley, parents Lee and Hazel Thompson, sister and brother in law Marjorie and Gerald Vitamvas, brother Richard Thompson, sister Mary in infancy, and sister and brother in law Rolland and Abbey Ryerson.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Dale) Jensen of Atlantic, Iowa, son Daniel (Irene) Whalley of Fremont, grandsons Greg (Carrie) Jensen of Audubon, Iowa, Adam Jensen of Exira, Iowa, granddaughters Jenny (Greg) Fry of Stoutland, Missouri, Ann Nielsen (Larry Jo Hinners) of Manning, Iowa, Heather (Daniel) Newman of Atlantic, Iowa. 14 great-grandchildren, and many other friends and relatives.
