Rodney "Rod" Duane Welander, age 71, unexpectedly went to join his Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at his home in Fremont, NE.

Rod was born April 27, 1947 in Valley City, North Dakota.His family moved to Fremont and he graduated from Fremont High School in 1965.Rodney then attended airline school after which he lived in Chicago, Colorado Springs, and Fremont, working for the airlines in ticket sales and customer service.

Presently, Rod was serving as the President of the church council at Peace Lutheran Church.He organized Peace Lutheran's Benevolent Bocci Ball League.Rod also served at the YMCA in the youth fishing club.

Rod spent many hours in his life hunting and fishing with friends and family.He also spent many hours cheering for his grandsons in youth archery, baseball, basketball, football, and track.He often enjoyed wood carving and spending his down time with his nose buried in a good book.In retirement, Rod and Carolyn would winter in Scottsdale, AZ, where he happily engaged in projects in the rock shop and swimming in the pool.

Rod was preceded in death by his father Marvin Welander and his mother Annabel Welander.

Rod will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn, his daughters, Bekki Navarrette and Jodi (Ryan) Fischer.Rod will also be fondly remembered by his 4 grandsons Trey, Preston, Elliot and Isaiah, by his brother Darrell (Annette) and sister Sharon Miley.

Memorials have been established to Peace Lutheran Church.

Visitation: 4:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Dugan Funeral Chapel.Family will be present from 5:00 – 8:00.

Memorial Services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, October 5, 2018, at Peace Lutheran Church.Pastor Sean Tyler will be officiating.
