Rudolph W. Carlson age 94, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Rudolph W. Carlson was born on September 17, 1917, in Ceresco, Nebraska (Saunders County) to Ivar and Selma (Martinson) Carlson.He attended Ceresco High School before moving to Fremont with his parents.He graduated from Fremont High School.After graduation, he worked as a carpenter on the Martin Bomber Base (now known as Offutt) in Omaha.

Rudolph was received into Christ's Church through Holy Baptism in Ceresco and was Confirmed at Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Rudolph married Glennice Anderson on September 22, 1942, at Sinai Lutheran Church in Fremont.He entered into the United States Army on March 22, 1942, and was a veteran of World War II.After boot camp, he applied to attend officer's candidate school in October of 1942 and was accepted.He was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant on February 3, 1942.In the fall he was transferred from Cape Cod to Florida with an Amphibian Company preparing to go to the Pacific War Zone.In January of 1944, prior to D-Day, they formed 12 Harbor Craft Companies and Rudy was called to be Commander of the Company.His duties were to help get large ships in and out of harbors in France using tug boats.In May of 1944, he departed for New York with his Company and he and Glennice returned to Fremont.He was honorably discharged with the rank of Major in March of 1946.

Rudolph was a carpenter with his father Ivar and built many, many homes in Fremont.After many years of construction he was employed by the Nebraska Stat Savings and Loan Association for 18 years before retiring as Vice President on April 1, 1964.He was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church for 83 years and served on the Church Council for 12 years, a member of the Sinai Church Choir for 40 years as well as serving on the building committee.Rudy was a life member of American Legion Post #265 in Colon, Nebraska, and was a member of the Fremont Eagles Club Aerie #200 for 56 years.
