Ruth Mittlestadt Odden, 95, of Fremont died peacefully in her sleep at Nye Pointe on Wednesday, April 4, 2007. Ruth was born in Portage, Wisconsin on June 11, 1911, then moved as a small child to Storm Lake, Iowa where she graduated from high school. She became a cosmetologist, and met and married Hilmer A. Odden of Osage, Iowa, on January 28, 1939. They were married for 49 years and had three daughters. The Oddens moved to Fremont in 1958 after having lived in several Midwestern states. Ruth was a wonderful homemaker all of her life and enjoyed sewing, cooking meals for her family and friends, baking beautiful angel food cakes, tending to her lovely roses and flowers, and playing cards. Ruth belonged to the Fremont Golf Club and Salem Lutheran Church. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Connie (William) Smith, of Denver, Colorado; Karen (Richard) Bylski, of Palm Springs, California; and Nancy (Gerald) Knoell, of Fremont; one sister, Jean Mansfield, of Joplin, Missouri; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Hilmer in 1987, her parents and a brother, Art Mittelstadt. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Salem Llutheran Church. Vicar Diana Kuhl will officiate. Inurnment will be at Memorial Cemetery. No Visitation. Memorials have been established to Salem Lutheran Church and Spina Bifida.
