Sara Dillow, 67
Fremont

Died at Methodist Hospital in Omaha on Friday, February 8.

Sara was born on Dec. 17, 1940 to John and Grace Rhodes in Beatrice, Nebraska. Sara graduated in 1958 from Beatrice High School and the University of Nebraska in 1962 with a degree in Home Economics. She was also an Aksarben Dairy Queen and a member of Chi Omega sorority. Sara married Dr. Byron M. Dillow in Beatrice on September 12, 1962. Dr. Dillow died on September 12, 2002 after 40 years of marriage. Sara was a lifelong volunteer at the state and local level, quilter, and avid gardener. Mrs. Dillow recently retired as the Acquisitions Coordinator for the International Quilt Study Center at the University of Nebraska.

Sara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church0 of Fremont, Chapter EX P.E.O., former board member of the Salvation Army, former member of the board of directors of the Fremont Parks Department, former member of the board of directors of the University of Nebraska Alumni Association, charter member of the Cather Society at the University of Nebraska, trustee of the University of Nebraska Foundation, founding member and first president of the Prairie Piece Makers Quilt Guild of Fremont, founding member and first president of the Nebraska State Quilt Guild, 1994 inductee in the Nebraska State Quilt Guild Hall of Fame, past president of the American Quilt Study Group, recipient of the University of Nebraska's Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award, author of the book 'Repiecing the Past", Vice-president of the Board of Directors of Fremont Rod and Gun Club, former President of the University of Nebraska Fremont Area Alumni chapter and an honorary Admiral of the Navy of the Great State of Nebraska.

Claudia and Louisa Dillow of Mission Hills, Kansas
Alexander and Samuel Crowley of Hays, Kansas

Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. William Lewis officiating. Closed casket visitation will be Monday from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Dugan Funeral Chapel with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00. There has been a memorial established to the University of Nebraska Foundation in honor of the Sara Rhodes Dillow Memorial Fund supporting the University of Nebraska Quilt Study Center c/o University Foundation, 1010 Lincoln Mall Suite 300, Lincoln, Nebraska 68508. .
