Thelma R. Zieg, 85

Died at Fremont Area Medical Center Wednesday.

Thelma Rose Borcher was born at home in Scribner on February 2, 1923 to George and Fredericka (Launer) Borcher. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Scribner and attended St. Peters Parochial School all eight grades. She graduated from Scribner High School in 1940 and ten worked several months with J.C. Penny in Atlantic, Iowa. She returned to Scribner and was employeed as a bookkeeper for Elkhorn Valley Gas Company. She married Alfred Zieg March 24, 1946 in Scribner and then became a homemaker and a devoted mother, raising three children. She served as Secretary and Treasurer for Branch 1009 AAL for seven years and was active in the Church Ladies Aid. She taught Sunday School at St. Peters. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. She belonged to the Heritage Club at Fremont and Good Life Club at West Point. She enoyed traveling and attending her husbands ship reunions and was a proficient seamstress.

She is survived by her husband, one daughter Nancy Heinicke (husband Gary), two sons Jim Zieg (wife Dawn) and Tom Zieg (wife Judy) all of Lincoln. A brother Jerry Borcher of Chicago, Illinois and as sister Georgine Borcher of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Sister in Law Joretta Borcher of Santa Maria, California. 10 grand children and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. Rev. Dan Heuer officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00. Memorials have been established to the Trinity Lutheran Endowment Fund and the Scribner Fire Department.
