Vernon J. Chittenden, age 70, of Fremont passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 peacefully at his home.

Vern was born August 5, 1943, to Jesse and Marie (Huddle) Chittenden in Norfolk, Nebraska. He was raised in Madison, Nebraska and later moved to Missouri Valley, IA where he graduated in 1961. After high school Vern went to work. He was married to Judy Neff on September 23, 1962 in California Junction, Iowa. They were blessed with two children Mike, and Stacey. Vern spent most of his career in the automobile industry where he worked for Sid Dillion and Gene Steffy. He retired after 50 years in the auto industry.

Vern had a passion for Nebraska football, playing golf, and watching NASCAR. He loved spending his spare time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jesse Chittenden and Marie (Huddle) Chittenden.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years Judy. Son Mike (Amy) Chittenden of Austin, Texas. Daughter Stacey (Brad) Hunsley of LaVista, Nebraska. Grandchildren Sydney Hunsley, Braxton Hunsley, Rylee Hunsley, Jacy Chittenden, Coby Chittenden, and Mily Chittenden.

Sisters Audrey (Glenn) Wedekind of Columbus, NE, Ardyce (James) O'Neill of Logan, IA, and Donna (Oran) Nelson of Neola, IA. Many other nieces and nephews, family and friends.
