Vernon L. Hilgenkamp age 95, of Fremont passed away Monday, December 1, 2014 at Shalimar Gardens.

Vernon was born October 13, 1919 to G.W. and Dorthea (Schmidt) Hilgenkamp. Vernon attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and Arlington Public School before he began his farming career. He married Agnes Wittman in 1941(she passed away in 1964). He began farming in 1942 near North Bend, Arlington and Ames. In 1963 he bought the International Harvester Dealership in Scribner. He married Letha Barber in 1965. Vernon ran the dealership till retiring in 1984 then moved to Fremont in 2001.

Vernon had a passion for woodworking, especially making dollhouses. He was very active with Habitat for Humanity helping build 20+ houses. Vernon loved traveling with Letha and working in the garden. He was an active member of First Congregational-U.C.C. in Fremont and Scribner, and was a former member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Agnes, second wife Letha, sons John and Alan, Step-Daughter Pauline-Polly Streenz, brothers Gilbert and Floyd, and granddaughter Elizabeth Holben.

He is survived by his sons Gerald (Donna) Hilgenkamp of Ames, Stan (Marsha Lindbloom) Hilgenkamp of Lincoln, Paul (Chris) Hilgenkamp of Castle Rock, Colorado, Don (Kris) Hilgenkamp of Lincoln, Step-son Andy (Lois) Barber of Spring Hill, Kansas, Step-daughter Laurie (Steve) Holben of Gardner, Kansas, 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 5, 2014 at Dugan Funeral Chapel. Pastor A. David Paul will be officiating.
Burial will take place at Memorial Cemetery.
