Vivian Coley, age 101, of Fremont died Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at Dunklau Gardens.

She was born Nov. 27, 1915, in rural Stanton County to Eugene and Sally Robinson.
She attended a country grade school from first through eighth grade and then started at Pilger High School, which she graduated from in 1934.

In August 1934, she married Leonard Coley of Pilger and they had two daughters, Jody, and Cheryl.

Before Cheryl was born, the Coleys lived in Sidney and Scottsbluff. When the family moved to North Platte, Leonard bought a restaurant. During World War II, Vivian was among those involved in the North Platte Canteen, which provided homestyle food and fellowship to military personnel on the troop trains that passed through.

Vivian's jobs included retail sales at the J.M. McDonald's department store in Fremont and a short stint at Boys Town, where she counted donations. She returned to J.M. McDonald's.
For the last 10 years of her career, she worked at a subsidiary of Mutual of Omaha called Omaha Indemnity. There, she worked in customer service. She retired at age 65.

Vivian attended Full Life Church in Fremont, where she served in the Women's Ministries. She also prepared meals at the Care Corps Family Services homeless shelter.
She was an ardent Nebraska football fan and loved to play bridge.

Survivors include: her daughter, Jody Coley of Fremont; granddaughters, Jill Hicks (Matt Zvolenski) of Washington, D.C., and Allyson and Keith Heyen of Germany and great-grandsons, William and Archer, and several loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl; and nine brothers and sisters.

A Celebration of Life is for Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:30AM at Full Life Church, with Pastor Mike Washburn officiating.
