Walter R. Grosse, age 79, of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Dunklau Gardens.

Walter R. Grosse was born on August 4, 1935 on a farm near Venus, NE to Carl and Anna (Christiansen) Grosse and entered into eternal rest Wednesday, June 24, 2015.

Walt joined the Air Force after graduating from Creighton Public High School in 1952.He was an airborne medic while in the Air Force while stationed at Travis AFB, CA and Tachikawa AB, Japan.After being discharged in 1959, he and his father owned and operated a produce station in O'Neill, NE.He then went to work for Gillette Dairy as a home-deliver driver and a bulk delivery route driver from O'Neill into South Dakota.He moved to Fremont to work for Archer Daniels Midland Inc. where he was in charge of the Quality Control lab.He retired from there in 1997 after 30 years.After retiring from ADM, he worked part-time for Enterprise Car Rentals until he could no longer work because of his health.


Walt married LaDonna McNulty of O'Neill on Oct 27, 1962.They had two daughters, Mary Ann and Katherine, three sons, Robert, and twins Donald and Dean.


Walt was known for his compassion for those with special needs.He was active in Special Olympics as a mentor, an advocate and coach for 25 years.He served on the Fremont ENCOR board and the Omaha advisory board.He was a long time member of the Fremont and Arlington Lions Club where he actively supported the "Opening Eyes" program.He also held the office of District Governor.


Walt was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was an Elder and Shut-In Visitor as well as a Communion Assistant.Walt was active in Christians Encounter Christ community and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.


He was especially proud of the fact that he was instrumental in organizing the first Fremont "After Prom" party, a life saving program for teens, which is still active today.


He is survived by his wife, LaDonna, sons Bob and Dean Grosse of Fremont, sister Jan Cromwell of Lincoln and brother Ken (Rita) of Fremont, several nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Mary Ann and Katherine, one son, Donald, two brothers-in-law, Delbert Hilkemeier and Gene Cromwell.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dugan Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 28, from 3-8P.M. with family present from 5-7 P.M at Dugan Funeral Chapel. A prayer service will be held at 7 P.M. at Dugan Funeral Chapel.Funeral services will be Monday, June 29, at 10:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 16th and Luther Rd in Fremont.Burial will be a Calvary Cemetery in O'Neill, NE at 4P.M. with full military honors by American Legion Post #93.
