William O. Pugsley's Obituary
William O. "Doc" Pugsley, 93, of Fremont died Feb. 5, 2010 at Brookestone Meadows in Elkhorn, Nebraska.
Bill was born Feb. 23, 1916 to Pierre & Anna (Bratt) Pugsley in Genoa, Nebraska and graduated from high school there in 1934. He graduated in 1938 from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, the NU cheerleading squad, and participated in Kosmet Club. He then attended the University of Nebraska Dental College, where he was a member of the Xi Psi Phi Dental Fraternity, graduating in 1942 . He interned at the Cincinnati General Hospital before serving in the United States Navy as a Marine Corps dental officer in the South Pacific during WW II. He moved to Fremont and opened his dental practice in 1945. He practiced until he retired in 1985.
Bill married Beverly Mae (Elm) Pugsley on September 22, 1945 in Fremont, Nebraska. She died December 18, 2008.
Bill was a member of the Nebraska Dental Society, American Dental Society-Research Gold Foil Study Club, TriValley Dental Society, Masonic Lodge, the Fremont American Legion VFW Honor Guard, and Fremont Rod & Gun Club. He sang in the Fremont Pathfinder Chorus and several quartets entertaining audiences for many years. He also enjoyed horseback riding, boating, camping, fishing, hunting, Husker football and baseball, but his life's motto was really "you can't beat fun."
Survivors include: one son, William Pugsley (wife Jodell) of Lincoln, two daughters, Jane Shradar and Jo Fortkamp (husband Neil), all of Omaha; grandchildren, Scott Fortkamp, Mark Fortkamp (wife Lea) all of Chicago, IL, JR Pugsley of Phoenix, AZ, Kelly Schick (husband Matt), Jill Shradar, great granddaughter, Maleah Shradar all of Omaha, and sister, Harriet Fenton of Lincoln.
There will be a gathering to see the family Friday, February 12, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dugan Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be Saturday, February 13, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, Fremont, with the Rev. Terri Ackerman officiating. There have been memorials established to the Pathfinder Chorus Charity and the Fremont Honor Guard.
